Erling Haaland's contract not affected by 115 charges

Manchester City's Erling Haaland has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract until 2034, despite the ongoing investigation into alleged financial rule breaches by the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker, now one of the highest-paid sports stars globally, dismissed any concerns about the potential consequences of the investigation.

When questioned about the possibility of terminating his contract if City are found guilty and face severe punishments like point deductions or even relegation, Haaland expressed full confidence in the club's handling of the situation.

He stated that he had not considered such a scenario and believed it was inappropriate for him to comment extensively on the matter.

Manchester City, currently facing Premier League charges for alleged financial rule violations between 2009 and 2018, have secured a long-term future with star striker Erling Haaland.

Following a four-year investigation, City were referred to an independent commission in February 2023. The club strongly denies all 115 charges. Private hearings were conducted between September and December.

Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has scored an impressive 112 goals in just 127 appearances. He has now signed a new contract extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2034, making it the longest contract in Premier League history.

While the details of the new deal remain undisclosed, it is understood that certain clauses from his previous contract, which was set to expire in 2027, have been removed. Reports suggest the inclusion of a break clause in 2029, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Haaland expressed his enthusiasm for the long-term commitment, stating, "It is a really good sign... It is a bit unusual, it is not normal and that is also something I like. It felt good for both parties and in the end it was an easy choice."

City's focus now shifts to the crucial Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
