Gundogan outlines motivation for Barcelona transfer
Ilkay Gundogan explains Barcelona transfer motivation reason as Man City midfielder secured exit.
Former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has set his sights on helping Barcelona's next generation after completing his move to Camp Nou two months ago.
The German international, who scored twice in City's 2-1 win over Manchester United in last season's FA Cup final, joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer after his deal at the Etihad Stadium expired.
He signed a two-year deal, featuring an eye-watering €400million buyout clause.
The 32-year-old spent seven years at City, scoring 60 goals and grabbing 40 assists in 304 appearances. He was Pep's first signing of his reign at Man city. He also won 14 major trophies, including five Premier League titles.
City presented the 2013 champions league finalist with the offer of a new contract, but he favoured a move to the La Liga champions, and has now detailed why he wanted to join the Spanish giants, admitting that he hopes his experience will rub off on the club's younger generation of players.
